So this past Saturday I went on “The Great Los Angeles Walk”, an annual event that has folks meet up the Saturday before Thanksgiving for an epic walk around Los Angeles. This year (19th one!) was from USC to UCLA. Approx. 14.2 miles. We saw amazing buildings, murals, restaurants, etc. It was quite a day, but my legs, hips and butt are killing me!! I’ve never walked that far in my life. I’m glad I had the forethought to park at UCLA and get an Uber to the start of the walk! I was in no condition to get public transport or fight for an Uber/Lyft when we were done, lol!

Next year is going to start at One Wilshire all the way to the beach, which is longer than this year’s walk.

 I better start training soon!

Just a note- Bluesky is such a friendly place! I’ve been off the other one for pretty much 13 years, so it’s nice to scroll through positive, productive, informational (not just political) posts. I have a feeling I’ll need that a lot in the next 4 years.

I don’t post, but it’s nice to scroll.

Okay, I waited a couple of days after the election to post. I thought by now I wouldn’t in a state of disgust, sorrow, fear or anger. Turns out I’m still knee deep in all of those feelings and more.

We’re going to have a convicted felon, sexual abuser, racist, classist, misogynistic, sociopath take the highest office we have. I’m so proud.  Actually, I feel sick. Anyone want to start a suffragette group with me? I’m sure women’s right to vote is going to be on the chopping block soon.

Just an aside to everyone who voted for him- he hates you and thinks you’re stupid. HE ADMITTED IT!! And if you did it for the economy and consumer prices, you should have done your homework because he won’t do shit for you but make it worse.

He’ll be even more of an abomination this time. No accountability. He’ll get away with anything he wants, he always does because you let him. He laughs at you. All of you.

I feel hopeless. All the innocent people who will be attacked by their administration will be unprecedented. Not to mention street level attacks by racist assholes.

Just remember, once he’s back in office, this is YOUR fault. Anything that happens. YOU did this. And you can fuck off if you say you didn’t know, because you did. Your greedy, selfish, racist self knew, you just didn’t care.

Awe man, I need to stop. Believe it or not, I edited out a lot of this post.

I’m glad I’m not on social media, I’m sure I’d feel worse if I was.

Hey Er’body! I thought I posted stuff, but I guess I didn’t. Sorry! This post going to be a mish-mash over a few months (oops!). Kinda random to be honest.

I went to D23 yesterday. It was “meh”. Probably because I had not been able to find anyone who’d been before and didn’t know any tricks to see / participate in cool stuff. The Loki TVA interactive exhibit was cool though. Would I go again? Not sure. I guess I have two years to think about it!

I started getting back to being serious about my health back in the end of May and I’m at my goal weight. Buttttttttt, as most of you know, I have a “disordered” past, so it can be a struggle for me to know when to stop. I’ve noticed a bunch of muscle loss, especially in my arms so I had to start buying protein shakes and that makes me feel old, especially the Ensure Max Protein, I associate Ensure with seniors! Slate is the better one of the two, but I’m also going to try Quest. A friend recommended it to me. I started physical therapy for my shoulder, so hopefully I can build up the muscle in my arms over the next few months.

Let’s see, what else? I saw Squeeze out at Agua Caliente, Keane at the Greek (on the hottest day of the year! It was 109F at 10pm!). Both were great shows.

I got Covid for the first time and it kicked my ass HARD! I think I got it at Keane, but I didn’t test positive for a week, so I’m not sure. My brain is still foggy and I haven’t gotten all taste and smell back yet. I have a crappy memory to start with, I can’t believe how bad it is now, lol! I know I saw a movie a few weeks ago, but I can’t remember what it was. I know I enjoyed it though!

Went outlet shopping and lunch with a friend a few weeks ago and found out they have stage 4 lung cancer. That was devastating. They have good medical, so we’re hoping for the best. They’re the strongest person I know, if anyone can beat it, it’s them.

Work is still less than ideal. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my options within the firm. Speaking of work, is it me or does everyone think it’s weird for a co-worker to be on their cell phone in the ladies room at least once a day and give anyone who walks in the stink eye before walking out coz we invaded their privacy? Keep in mind, we are expanding to the entire floor and the space is ready for people to move in! Go over there and talk! It’s beautiful with amazing views of the mountains. Much nicer than a ladies room.

Oh, two of my bosses are “no longer with the firm”, yay for uncertainty!

Agatha All Along is amazing, if you’re not watching, you should  be! Two episodes left, but they both air next week. Can’t wait!

I still need to plan my trip to see my folks for the holidays, ugh. I hate making plane reservations. Not sure why.

I think that’s it for now. Should look at my calendar and see what I missed, lol!

Enjoy your day!!

Saturday, August 3, 2024

Hey everyone!  It’s been a minute, sorry. Work and stuff have been keeping me busy and every time I was about to take a second to post, I couldn’t think of anything to type.

The summer has been okay so far, if not a bit too warm for my taste.

I’m going to D23 next week. It’s my first time and boy does it look complicated! We could only get passes for Saturday and to be honest, the programming doesn’t look great. I was able to get reservations for the Wolverine 50th anniversary thing so I at least have that to look forward to. I thought Saturday would be filled with the big ticket events! Then again, I don’t understand this event so I might have read things wrong.

Speaking of Wolverine, Deadpool and Wolverine is a FUN movie! If you can, go see it! Since I’m old, I always see movies at an IPic theater, where i can lay down, have delicious food and drinks brought to me and not have other moviegoers “too” close. They have things kind of like two-person pods with blankets and a small table. Love it! I may see it again today/tomorrow and might try the theater around the corner. I think they have luxury recliners. We’ll see! It’s supposed to be around 100F (38 C)  this weekend, so a cool movie theater might be a nice break.

What else has been going on? I thought I finally got Covid for the first time, but it was just mild food poisoning. It suuuuucked!

My landlord got the plumber in to fix a clog in my bathroom pipes, which was good. My tub is separate from my shower and they were draining into each other and the sink was draining into both. The only bummer about having the plumber in was my landlord finally asked him to replace my kitchen faucet. He only had one that was compatible on him and it was really expensive. I told him it could wait until he had a different one, but my landlord insisted he do it. So they took out my old one and put in this fancy tall curved number with a hose in it. Well, I didn’t think to take an aerator/adaptor off that I’d put on for my countertop dishwasher and it turns out they’re not compatible anyway. I bought about $50 worth of parts to try and make it work to no avail. So then I had to buy a new countertop dishwasher with a water tank you manually fill up so it doesn’t need to be connected to the faucet. Unfortunately, its capacity is quite a bit less than my original unit. It IS fancier though! Omg, it has a window, interior light, digital countdown timer, all kids of stuff! Dumb thing is, because my cupboards hang lower than standard, neither unit fits under them (not even close!). It’s nice to have one though, plus they use WAY less water than hand washing, isn’t that neat? I would have thought the opposite. Luckily, there were good deals on units for Prime Day.

I never got around to re-arranging my living room, so I’m going to try and map something out today or tomorrow. I hauled out my super-fancy portable a/c unit to keep the room cool if I decide to move furniture (first time this year I’ll be using it!). Question is, do I really need a desk and workspace in here? I’ve got artwork up and rugs that use the robins egg blue color of my sweet, sweet desk. I dunno!

And I STILL need to do something about my kitchen…

Lol, how boring is my life?!!??

More later! Have a great weekend, stay cool if it’s warm where you’re at.

Friday, April 5, 2024

Woo hoo, it’s Friday y’all!

I’m off work, got the cats fed, comfy clothes on, some interesting stuff playing on Youtube and planning a hybrid fajita/soft taco dinner. Gotta figure out when to put the chuck into the pressure cooker. Pair that with sizzling peppers and onions and my place is going to smell amazing tonight!

I’m trying to decide if I want to drive out to Palm Springs tomorrow night for another art print release party. This artist has really been getting out a lot of new stuff the last few months! The new print has a version of Johnny Cash in it and I really like it. It seems like a waste to drive out there and back though. Maybe. I dunno. Since I’d be driving, I can’t have any of the free cocktails, I guess I could have a Diet Coke.

I hope we get some more rain today, it looks spooky and stormy. The cats are in the front window watching crazy squirrels outside racing around. It’s so cute! What a nice afternoon!

More later…maybe.

Thursday, March 28, 2024

Okay, so I’m off work today. It was so counterintuitive not getting up and to the office by 4:30am. My two monster cats had other ideas though. Racing around making weird noises and all kinds of stuff to get me out of bed to feed them.

My younger cat turned 1 year earlier this month and is still obese. My other cat that turned a year in October is a normal weight, if not on the slim side. Why??  I feed them the same food and treats! Poor fat thing grunts whenever he jumps up or down off things. Don’t try to shame me, I took him to the vet a few months ago and was told to not worry about it yet.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do today, what do people do during the week?? I guess I could run weekend errands? I’ll probably just spend the day in the couch or something, lol!

This is weird. 😳

Happy Birthday CBLMW, I hope this next year brings you much joy, happiness and success!!!

Saturday, March 16, 2024

It’s been a busy few weeks. Well, busy for me!

I went out to Palm Springs a few times for art releases and another time for a modernist charity event. Both were a lot of fun. The neat thing about these groups is they really get into a mid century or 1960s / early 1970’s vibe. At the charity event most people came dressed thematically, which I didn’t really know about, but luckily I kind of dressed that way anyway so I was good. Best was there was one lady who was there who look like she stepped right out of a 1974 Colombo episode. I swear, she was amazing! Wore, a really flowy sheer caftan type garment over a more fitted gown and had her hair up with ringlets down by her ears. She looked exactly like someone in a Columbo episode who would have murdered her rich, problematic husband and was trying to get away with it. It was awesome!

I had the Doctor Who convention which wasn’t a lot of fun to be honest. It was OK, but nothing to really make note of.

Oh yeah,  I got about 4-5 inches cut off of my hair too! Wow! So weird to have short-ish blonde hair!! I’ve had long hair for a while now, so not being able to put it in a ponytail or bun is scary. It had to be done though. It was driving me crazy there were parts that my hairdresser couldn’t bleach lighter without destroying the hair, so it was kinda brassy and the rest was more on the platinum side. There’s still a little left, but it’s not as noticeable. It’s still weird to look in the mirror and not see a brunette with some blonde staring back at me! I’m still not entirely sure it suits me, but here we are! Now it’s time to grow out what I just cut off, lol.

I went down to Long Beach to see Charo last weekend. Now THAT was a lot of fun! I tried to explain to people at work who Charo was, and no one knew who she was! I guess it’s a generational thing. But what a beautiful performer, such talent and such heart. I’ve got a comedy show this afternoon which should be a lot of fun. Sir Patrick Stewart is one of the guests, so I’m looking forward to it. I saw him in Hamlet in the UK many years ago, and this show is definitely not that high brow.

Work has been really busy. I’ve been approached about adding another role to my job. I don’t know that it is something that I really want to do but I’m not sure I have choice because the person asking for me to do the extra stuff is everybody’s boss. You can’t really say no to everybody’s boss, right? He mentioned paying me more, but it bugs me the stuff he’s gonna want me to do is part of someone else’s job. Someone who doesn’t seem to do shit, but is young and pretty and gets away with everything. She actually came up to me this last week and asked if I could take notes during our weekly management call. THAT’S HER JOB ON THE CALL. I politely declined and she gave me sad face. Too bad, I have my own stuff to do. I think our boss believes she’s going to quit because she’s not happy being asked to be accountable for her tasks. UGH, I can’t say I’m too enthusiastic about my job. I decided to take Holy Thursday off, not for religious reasons or anything but just to have a four-day weekend. My coworker that I back up is taking all kinds of time off and it seems like I don’t, so I thought what the heck I’ll take a day. I’ve been capped at my maximum accrual for a while now. The only time I really took for over a year was a few days at Christmas so I think I’m due for a day off. We get Good Friday off, which is weird, so I figure why not take the day before? The coworker that I back up is taking the Monday off so I couldn’t add that.

I’ve done a little bit of redecorating of my living room. Not a lot, just some furniture rearrangement and I changed the curtains, you know that kind of stuff. I really like the new curtains, they’re a light robins egg blue. I got new shear curtains as well since my weirdo cats scratched the old ones.

I’ve been enjoying the rain, but it looks like we’re not going to get any more for a while.

Wellllll, I should do something productive today, so better jump. Might write more later.

Saturday, January 13, 2024

Well, Happy New Year everyone! I really hope 2024 is better than the dumpster fire that was 2023, that’s for sure. I lost two very important beings this year and I’m not sure I’m over either of them. I’ve always done my best to see the beautiful things in life and now we’re in a new year I’ve been making a more focused and concerted effort to continue to do just that.

So, how were the last few months? Meh-They were okay.

I went to see my folks over Christmas. No rain or snow which was a bummer and quite unusual. Global warming is a myth though, according to my redneck co-worker, lol! (SMH). I had a good time regardless. My dad and I watched a classic movie and a Liverpool match, both were great. I had pizza for the first time in about 2 years, so that was AMAZING! I’m not sure why I haven’t had pizza in so long, boy was it good.  Only bad thing is, even though I was on vacation, I worked every day, even Christmas.

Flew home on the 27th, had a client reach out as I was going through airport security. I called them after I was on my way to the gate. They wanted me to do some work and I’m like “um, I’m at the airport coming back from my time off and am without a secure connection” “I’ll call you at 3pm?” “I won’t be home by 3pm and we’ll be past any cut-off times anyway, but I will be in the office by 4:30 tomorrow morning” “okay, I’ll call you first thing”. Guess what? I had to call them at 11:30 since I hadn’t heard anything. They didn’t call me back until the next day! Then it was something we didn’t need to do until the following week, lol!

I found out yesterday my friend who went home to England passed away. I’m gutted. It was expected, but still hard. We’d talked about me visiting this year, but one of the last things he said to me before he left was he knew he’d never see me again. He knew. Too young. I’m thankful he’s at peace though. I’m going to try to meet up with my friend Sam and go to The Kings Head and raise a glass for T.

I’ve got tickets to a 35th anniversary screening of 1989’s Tim Burton Batman for tonight. I’m really excited! There will be a symphony there, so the score should sound incredible. They recommend we dress up as a DC character, but I’m WAY too old for that, lol! I’m glad this on a 3-day weekend, I’m behind on chores, so I’ll still have time to get things done and still go out and do stuff! Like buy shoes, I need a new pair!

Work is the same, except busier. I’m excited for the 3-day weekend. I took my tree down last weekend and my living room looks weird. I need to spend some time getting it back in “balance”.

I might post more later. My brain is a bit scattered right now, as I’m sure you can tell!
