Woo hoo, it’s Friday y’all!

I’m off work, got the cats fed, comfy clothes on, some interesting stuff playing on Youtube and planning a hybrid fajita/soft taco dinner. Gotta figure out when to put the chuck into the pressure cooker. Pair that with sizzling peppers and onions and my place is going to smell amazing tonight!

I’m trying to decide if I want to drive out to Palm Springs tomorrow night for another art print release party. This artist has really been getting out a lot of new stuff the last few months! The new print has a version of Johnny Cash in it and I really like it. It seems like a waste to drive out there and back though. Maybe. I dunno. Since I’d be driving, I can’t have any of the free cocktails, I guess I could have a Diet Coke.

I hope we get some more rain today, it looks spooky and stormy. The cats are in the front window watching crazy squirrels outside racing around. It’s so cute! What a nice afternoon!

More later…maybe.

Okay, so I’m off work today. It was so counterintuitive not getting up and to the office by 4:30am. My two monster cats had other ideas though. Racing around making weird noises and all kinds of stuff to get me out of bed to feed them.

My younger cat turned 1 year earlier this month and is still obese. My other cat that turned a year in October is a normal weight, if not on the slim side. Why??  I feed them the same food and treats! Poor fat thing grunts whenever he jumps up or down off things. Don’t try to shame me, I took him to the vet a few months ago and was told to not worry about it yet.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do today, what do people do during the week?? I guess I could run weekend errands? I’ll probably just spend the day in the couch or something, lol!

This is weird. 😳

Happy Birthday CBLMW, I hope this next year brings you much joy, happiness and success!!!

It’s been a busy few weeks. Well, busy for me!

I went out to Palm Springs a few times for art releases and another time for a modernist charity event. Both were a lot of fun. The neat thing about these groups is they really get into a mid century or 1960s / early 1970’s vibe. At the charity event most people came dressed thematically, which I didn’t really know about, but luckily I kind of dressed that way anyway so I was good. Best was there was one lady who was there who look like she stepped right out of a 1974 Colombo episode. I swear, she was amazing! Wore, a really flowy sheer caftan type garment over a more fitted gown and had her hair up with ringlets down by her ears. She looked exactly like someone in a Columbo episode who would have murdered her rich, problematic husband and was trying to get away with it. It was awesome!

I had the Doctor Who convention which wasn’t a lot of fun to be honest. It was OK, but nothing to really make note of.

Oh yeah,  I got about 4-5 inches cut off of my hair too! Wow! So weird to have short-ish blonde hair!! I’ve had long hair for a while now, so not being able to put it in a ponytail or bun is scary. It had to be done though. It was driving me crazy there were parts that my hairdresser couldn’t bleach lighter without destroying the hair, so it was kinda brassy and the rest was more on the platinum side. There’s still a little left, but it’s not as noticeable. It’s still weird to look in the mirror and not see a brunette with some blonde staring back at me! I’m still not entirely sure it suits me, but here we are! Now it’s time to grow out what I just cut off, lol.

I went down to Long Beach to see Charo last weekend. Now THAT was a lot of fun! I tried to explain to people at work who Charo was, and no one knew who she was! I guess it’s a generational thing. But what a beautiful performer, such talent and such heart. I’ve got a comedy show this afternoon which should be a lot of fun. Sir Patrick Stewart is one of the guests, so I’m looking forward to it. I saw him in Hamlet in the UK many years ago, and this show is definitely not that high brow.

Work has been really busy. I’ve been approached about adding another role to my job. I don’t know that it is something that I really want to do but I’m not sure I have choice because the person asking for me to do the extra stuff is everybody’s boss. You can’t really say no to everybody’s boss, right? He mentioned paying me more, but it bugs me the stuff he’s gonna want me to do is part of someone else’s job. Someone who doesn’t seem to do shit, but is young and pretty and gets away with everything. She actually came up to me this last week and asked if I could take notes during our weekly management call. THAT’S HER JOB ON THE CALL. I politely declined and she gave me sad face. Too bad, I have my own stuff to do. I think our boss believes she’s going to quit because she’s not happy being asked to be accountable for her tasks. UGH, I can’t say I’m too enthusiastic about my job. I decided to take Holy Thursday off, not for religious reasons or anything but just to have a four-day weekend. My coworker that I back up is taking all kinds of time off and it seems like I don’t, so I thought what the heck I’ll take a day. I’ve been capped at my maximum accrual for a while now. The only time I really took for over a year was a few days at Christmas so I think I’m due for a day off. We get Good Friday off, which is weird, so I figure why not take the day before? The coworker that I back up is taking the Monday off so I couldn’t add that.

I’ve done a little bit of redecorating of my living room. Not a lot, just some furniture rearrangement and I changed the curtains, you know that kind of stuff. I really like the new curtains, they’re a light robins egg blue. I got new shear curtains as well since my weirdo cats scratched the old ones.

I’ve been enjoying the rain, but it looks like we’re not going to get any more for a while.

Wellllll, I should do something productive today, so better jump. Might write more later.

Well, Happy New Year everyone! I really hope 2024 is better than the dumpster fire that was 2023, that’s for sure. I lost two very important beings this year and I’m not sure I’m over either of them. I’ve always done my best to see the beautiful things in life and now we’re in a new year I’ve been making a more focused and concerted effort to continue to do just that.

So, how were the last few months? Meh-They were okay.

I went to see my folks over Christmas. No rain or snow which was a bummer and quite unusual. Global warming is a myth though, according to my redneck co-worker, lol! (SMH). I had a good time regardless. My dad and I watched a classic movie and a Liverpool match, both were great. I had pizza for the first time in about 2 years, so that was AMAZING! I’m not sure why I haven’t had pizza in so long, boy was it good.  Only bad thing is, even though I was on vacation, I worked every day, even Christmas.

Flew home on the 27th, had a client reach out as I was going through airport security. I called them after I was on my way to the gate. They wanted me to do some work and I’m like “um, I’m at the airport coming back from my time off and am without a secure connection” “I’ll call you at 3pm?” “I won’t be home by 3pm and we’ll be past any cut-off times anyway, but I will be in the office by 4:30 tomorrow morning” “okay, I’ll call you first thing”. Guess what? I had to call them at 11:30 since I hadn’t heard anything. They didn’t call me back until the next day! Then it was something we didn’t need to do until the following week, lol!

I found out yesterday my friend who went home to England passed away. I’m gutted. It was expected, but still hard. We’d talked about me visiting this year, but one of the last things he said to me before he left was he knew he’d never see me again. He knew. Too young. I’m thankful he’s at peace though. I’m going to try to meet up with my friend Sam and go to The Kings Head and raise a glass for T.

I’ve got tickets to a 35th anniversary screening of 1989’s Tim Burton Batman for tonight. I’m really excited! There will be a symphony there, so the score should sound incredible. They recommend we dress up as a DC character, but I’m WAY too old for that, lol! I’m glad this on a 3-day weekend, I’m behind on chores, so I’ll still have time to get things done and still go out and do stuff! Like buy shoes, I need a new pair!

Work is the same, except busier. I’m excited for the 3-day weekend. I took my tree down last weekend and my living room looks weird. I need to spend some time getting it back in “balance”.

I might post more later. My brain is a bit scattered right now, as I’m sure you can tell!

This will probably be a mish-mash of things. I’ve been randomly typing stuff since my last post.

A friend of mine who is very ill moved back home to England and I wanted to send them a text they’ll get first thing. I hope today is a good day for them, I know it’s got to be hard. I miss them, but our healthcare system is so bad here they had to move home to get proper treatments without being bankrupt. I believe it may have been too late though and that breaks my heart in a million pieces.  Update- haven’t heard back. I hope he’s okay! Another update- they are posting on Instagram and look okay. Very frail though. I don’t think they’re doing much communicating other than that. I’ve checked in with other friends and they’ve been keeping up via social media. I’m sending so many good thoughts!

Saw Squeeze and Psychedelic Furs at the Greek. Great show. Interesting to see rabid fans for each who have no fucks to give about the other band. It was oddly comforting to see an audience full of oldies like me!

We’re finally going to have a celebration of life for my boss. I’m not looking forward to it, but I’m hoping for s little closure. I’m not sure why, but his wife has a lot of anger directed towards the firm and I guess that extends to me. She quit taking our calls and responding to text messages. I wish her healing, but I’m done trying to reach out. I hope that doesn’t sound mean.

Celebration of life was nice. It was at a local country club, very fancy. I had a good time catching up with folks I haven seen in-person for a long time. The only members of my boss’s family who came was his son, who works with us. I can tell it’s a relief to him these things are over. We chatted a few times. He’s going to be okay. Has a bright future in front of him.

Work is still no fun. I am grateful I had so many great years there. I don’t plan on leaving for a bit, but I’m open to a change.

I saw The Marvels at the fancy movie theater. It was FUN. I don’t care what hateful people say, it was a good time. I don’t get why people can’t just go to the movies and enjoy themselves without going home afterwards, getting online and shitting all over the movie to everyone. People are mean.

The holidays have started, in fact today is Thanksgiving. I don’t have plans, although I was invited out. I decided to stay in and watch tv. I’m looking forward to starting a new year, I’ve had a lot of challenges this year and want it to be over.

I work tomorrow, but the office closes well before noon so it will be a short day. I think I’m the only one who is going in! It should be nice and quiet.

Sorry if this was a downer of a post. I’m watching the SNL vault channel so I’m actually having a good day. I’m also trying to figure out how to reconfigure my living room for the Christmas tree this weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Guys! What the heck, man? Do things just automatically start malfunctioning once you hit a certain age? This is bogus! I’m just now coming up for air after having back issues for the last 3 weeks. I barely made it to my parents place over the Labor Day holiday weekend and spent most of the time I was there in bed, swapping out cold packs and heating pads. I was surprised I was able to fly up there and back. I think I only managed by being strapped up with a back support, pulled tight, lol!

At first I thought I just threw my back out, but then one leg above the knee went numb, like it’s been shot up with novocain. That’s supposedly indicative of a pinched nerve. I got x-rays and I might have 2-3 herniated discs. I’ve been going to a chiropractor once a week the last couple of weeks and it’s helped a little.

I was supposed to get an MRI this morning to confirm/disprove the x-ray reading, but there was an issue with my crappy insurance so I had to reschedule..unless I wanted to pay $510. Yeah, now I have to call my insurance Monday, grrrrr. Maybe the chiropractor will fix me and I don’t have to get it done. Fingers-crossed!

Dealing with this since late August suuuucks.

Look, in my head I’m an immature kid. In reality, I’m just old and shit is starting to break down. The real world is literally a pain and no fun.

Other stuff going on- work still sucks. I worked from 4:20am thru about 7:30pm the other day (can’t bring myself to put in for OT). I DID however take a break from 2pm-3:30pm to go get my 6-month teeth cleaning done. Long lunch, I guess.

The black kitten is, in my opinion, grossly obese and it’s my fault for giving in to him. I’m working on getting his weight down though. His head looks so tiny on his fat body! I guess we’re all “curvy” in this house, lol! Not like I can go to the gym at the moment and wow, I’m kinda hungry. Ha!

I bought them (the cats) the new Chewy Goody Box for Halloween and it came this morning! They went crazy and love everything in it, especially the little pop-up tent with the dangling toy.

Oh, when I was in the boarding line to come home from my parents’ house, I looked-up and saw Jeremy Renner in line a few people ahead of me. He looks really healthy and was super nice to people. I mean, he was on a budget airline and didn’t have any kind of entourage. He seemed like a really cool dude.

That reminds me, I need to book a roundtrip flight and take it before Nov 30th so I can keep my preferred boarding status on said budget airline. Maybe I’ll go to Vegas and turn around and come back before I have a chance to lose any money!

Well, we’re getting into fall and I’m excited! Cooler weather is (hopefully) coming! I need to start looking for a showing of Stop Making Sense next week. I hope it shows around here!

Well, I should go clean the kitchen. Boooo.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!
